he CASS Scholars Joined a BRICs Think-tank Gathering in Brazilia
On April 14 and 15, 2010, Professor Zheng Bingwen, Director-General of the ILAS, and Doctor Zhou Zhiwei, Secretary of the Center for Brazilian Studies, participated in a BRICs Think-tank dialogue convened in Brasilia. Within the Chinese scholar group, headed by Vice-president, Professor Li Yang of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), rest director-generals and professors came from the CASS institutes of Asia-Pacific Studies, Russian, Eastern European, Central Asian Studies and World Economics & Politics, respectively delivering remarks on the financial crisis, international trade, climate change, foreign direct investment, scientific and technological innovation and global governance.
Despite the meeting itself, the Chinese delegation paid a visit on Mr. Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães, Minister of Strategic Affairs. Minister Guimarães expressed his appreciation of efforts by the Institute of Latin American Studies to initiate the Sino-Brazilian academic exchanges. During its stay, the Chinese delegation also visited the headquarters of the Workers Party of Brasil (PT), Center for the BRICs of PUC-RJ and other Brazilian academic institutions.
